What Does Our Fencing Service Include?
Our fencing service covers every type of domestic boundary fencing — from standard panel fencing and close board fencing to decorative picket fencing, post and rail, and trellis installations. We handle new installations on previously unfenced boundaries, complete replacements of old or damaged fencing, and targeted repairs to individual panels, posts and gravel boards.
Who is it for? Homeowners who need to secure their boundary, create privacy, contain pets or children, or simply improve the appearance of their property. Landlords who need rental properties brought up to standard. Anyone whose existing fencing has been damaged by storms, rot or age.
When is it needed? Fencing is needed when existing boundaries are damaged, leaning, rotting or no longer fit for purpose. It is also needed for new boundaries — perhaps after a property extension, garden redesign or change of use. Storm damage frequently requires urgent fencing repairs, particularly during Ayrshire's autumn and winter months.
Why professional installation matters: Fencing that is not installed properly fails prematurely. Posts that are not set deep enough lean or blow over. Panels that are not fitted correctly rattle, warp and break in high winds. Gravel boards that sit directly on wet soil rot within two years. We install every fence with correct post depth (minimum 600mm), concrete foundations, and proper panel fitting to maximise its lifespan and structural integrity.
What Happens When Fencing Problems Are Ignored
A damaged fence is not just an eyesore — it is a security risk and a liability. Leaning panels can collapse onto neighbouring property, potentially causing damage you are responsible for. Gaps in fencing allow pets to escape and intruders to access your property. Rotting posts weaken the entire run, meaning what starts as one bad post quickly becomes a full replacement job.
Many homeowners delay fence repairs because they assume they can fix it themselves or they underestimate the urgency. What starts as a single loose panel becomes a leaning section. What starts as surface rot becomes structural failure. The longer you wait, the more panels and posts are affected, and the higher the final cost.
Storm damage is particularly common in Ayrshire. Fences that have not been maintained — posts that are already weakened by rot, panels that are not properly secured — are the first to fail in high winds. Proactive repair and maintenance prevents the cascade of damage that a single major storm can cause.
There are also legal considerations. In most cases, you are responsible for the boundary fence on your property. If your fence falls onto a neighbour's property and causes damage, you may be liable for repair costs on both sides. Keeping your fencing in good condition is a legal responsibility, not just an aesthetic choice.
Our Process
How We Work
Site Survey and Quote
We visit your property, measure the boundary, assess ground conditions and discuss your requirements. You receive a detailed quote within 24 hours covering materials, labour and waste removal.
Material Selection
We help you choose the right fencing type for your needs — panel, close board, picket or post and rail — and the right materials including treated timber, concrete posts and gravel boards.
Old Fence Removal
If replacing existing fencing, we carefully remove old panels, posts and concrete, disposing of all waste responsibly. We take care to avoid damage to plants, paths or neighbouring property.
Post Installation
New posts are set in concrete at the correct depth and spacing. We use concrete posts where possible for maximum longevity, or treated timber posts where preferred. Every post is checked for plumb before the concrete sets.
Panel Fitting and Finishing
Panels are fitted securely with appropriate fixings. Gravel boards are installed to protect panels from ground moisture. All fixings are checked and the completed fence is inspected before we leave.
Why It Matters
The Benefits You Get
Immediate Security
A properly installed fence secures your boundary from day one. Pets stay in. Unwanted visitors stay out. Children play safely in a contained space.
Weather-Resistant Build
We use pressure-treated timber, concrete posts and proper foundations designed for Ayrshire's rainfall and wind exposure. Your fence will not be the first thing to fail in a storm.
Increased Property Value
Clean, well-installed fencing improves kerb appeal and adds tangible value to your property. Estate agents consistently list boundary condition as a factor in property valuation.
Privacy Where You Need It
Six-foot close board or panel fencing provides complete privacy for your garden. Combined with trellis, you can add height without a planning application in most cases.
Quick Installation
Most domestic fence installations are completed within one to two days, minimising disruption to your daily routine and your garden.
Full Waste Removal
We remove all old fencing materials and installation waste. Your property is left clean and tidy with nothing for you to dispose of.
Fencing Options in Detail
Panel Fencing
The most popular choice for domestic boundaries. We install standard overlap panels, waney-edge panels and decorative hit-and-miss panels. All panels are available in 6ft, 5ft and 4ft heights. We use quality panels from reputable suppliers — not budget panels that warp and split within a year. Panel fencing provides a clean, uniform appearance and is the most cost-effective option for full boundary fencing.
Close Board Fencing
Close board (also called featheredge) fencing is built on site using individual vertical boards nailed to horizontal rails between posts. It is stronger than panel fencing, more wind-resistant, and can follow uneven ground more naturally. Individual boards can be replaced if damaged, making maintenance simpler and cheaper in the long term. Close board is the premium choice for exposed or high-traffic boundaries.
Picket Fencing
Decorative picket fencing is ideal for front gardens where full privacy is not required but a defined boundary is wanted. We install traditional pointed pickets and contemporary flat-top designs in various heights. Picket fencing is particularly effective for containing pets in front gardens while maintaining an open, welcoming appearance.
Post and Rail
Post and rail fencing suits larger properties, paddocks, allotments and rural boundaries where stock-proof fencing is needed without full privacy. We install two-rail and three-rail configurations using morticed or nailed joints. This is the most economical option for long runs.
Concrete vs Timber Posts
Concrete posts outlast timber posts significantly — typically 25+ years versus 10-15 years for treated timber. They do not rot, are not affected by ground moisture, and provide a more rigid support for panels. We recommend concrete posts with concrete gravel boards for the longest-lasting installation. Timber posts remain an option where appearance is the priority or where the fence needs to follow a curved boundary.
Fence Repairs
Not every fence needs replacing. We carry out targeted repairs including replacing individual panels, re-setting leaning posts, fitting new gravel boards and reinforcing loose fixings. If your fence is mostly sound but has a few problem areas, repair is far more cost-effective than replacement. We assess honestly and only recommend replacement when repair is no longer viable.
