We source fresh, cultivated turf from specialist growers — weed-free, disease-free and grown to a consistent density. Before laying, we prepare the ground thoroughly: removing old turf or debris, rotavating the soil, improving drainage where needed, levelling the surface and applying a pre-turf fertiliser. This preparation is what separates a lawn that thrives from one that fails.

Why professional laying matters: Turf is a living product that must be laid within 24-48 hours of cutting. Incorrect ground preparation causes failure — soil that is too hard prevents root penetration; soil that is too loose causes sinking; poor drainage leads to waterlogging and disease. Ground Preparation

The most important stage of any turfing project. We strip existing grass using a turf cutter, then rotavate the soil to a depth of 100mm to break up compaction. Pre-turf fertiliser is applied to provide the nutrients new roots need during establishment.

Drainage Improvement

Many Ayrshire gardens have clay-heavy soil that holds water. For lawns on heavy clay, we incorporate sharp sand into the topsoil during preparation to improve drainage. For severely waterlogged areas, we may recommend land drainage installation before turfing to prevent future problems.
