What Tree Services Do We Offer?

Our tree services cover the range of domestic tree work that homeowners across Ayrshire commonly need. This includes small tree felling (trees that can be safely felled within a domestic garden setting), crown reduction and thinning, deadwood removal, branch pruning, stump grinding and complete tree removal including root extraction where required.

Who is it for? Homeowners with trees that have outgrown their position, are blocking light, threatening structures, or have become unsafe due to disease, storm damage or structural weakness. Property owners who need trees removed or reduced before building work. Anyone with a dangerous or unstable tree that needs addressing promptly.

When is it needed? Tree work can be carried out year-round, though certain tasks are better suited to specific seasons. Deciduous trees are often easier to work on during winter when they are dormant and visibility through the canopy is better. Storm damage requires immediate response regardless of season. Pruning for shape is typically best done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

Why professional help matters: Tree work is dangerous. Falling branches, unstable trunks and working at height all carry serious risks. Incorrect cutting techniques can cause trees to split or fall unpredictably. Improper pruning damages the tree's health and can create future hazards. We follow established arboricultural practices for every cut, every fell and every prune — ensuring safety for people, property and the trees themselves.

The Risks of Ignoring Tree Problems

Trees that are left unmanaged can become serious liabilities. Dead branches fall without warning — in high winds, even in calm weather when the weight becomes too much. A falling branch from a mature tree can cause thousands of pounds of damage to roofs, vehicles, fences and garden structures. More importantly, it can cause serious injury to people below.

Trees that have outgrown their space cause ongoing problems. Roots can damage foundations, drains, paths and driveways. Overhanging branches block light to rooms, kill grass and understory planting, and drop debris onto neighbouring properties. In some cases, neighbours can claim for loss of light or damage caused by your trees.

Disease spreads between trees if not addressed. Fungal infections that start in one tree can affect every tree of the same species in your garden. By the time visible symptoms appear — bracket fungi on the trunk, dieback in the crown, bark splitting — the tree may already be structurally compromised. Early identification and treatment saves trees. Delay means removal.

Many homeowners attempt DIY tree work with domestic chainsaws and ladders, which is extremely dangerous. Falls from height and chainsaw injuries are the most common causes of serious gardening accidents in the UK. Professional tree work uses correct equipment, proper technique and risk assessment for every task.

    Our Process

    How We Work

    1

    Site Assessment

We visit your property, assess the tree or trees in question, identify any hazards, check for Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and discuss your requirements and the best approach.

    2

    Risk Assessment and Planning

Every tree job has a specific plan covering felling direction, branch lowering techniques, equipment needed and protection for surrounding property, plants and structures.

    3

    Safe Execution

The work is carried out following the agreed plan. For felling, we use directional cutting techniques to control the fall precisely. For pruning, we make clean cuts at the correct branch collar to promote healing.

    4

    Complete Site Clearance

All branches, trunk sections and debris are removed from site. We chip brash on site where practical or remove it for disposal. The area is left clean and safe.

    5

    Stump Treatment or Removal

Stumps can be left at ground level, treated with stump killer to prevent regrowth, or ground out using a stump grinder for a completely clear site ready for replanting or turfing.

    Why It Matters

    The Benefits You Get

    Safety First

Every job is risk-assessed and carried out following professional arboricultural standards. Your property, neighbours and family are protected throughout.

    Fully Insured

We carry full public liability insurance specifically covering tree work. In the unlikely event of accidental damage, you and your property are fully protected.

    More Light and Space

Removing or reducing overgrown trees dramatically increases light levels in your garden and home. Rooms that were dark become bright. Lawns that were bare start growing.

    Protect Property and Structures

Proactive tree management prevents root damage to foundations, drains and paths. It eliminates the risk of falling branches damaging roofs, vehicles and fences.

    Preserve Healthy Trees

Not every tree needs removing. Crown reduction, thinning and selective pruning allow you to keep trees you value while managing their size and impact.

    Full Clean-Up Included

We leave your property cleaner than we found it. All wood, branches and debris are removed or processed on site. Nothing is left for you to deal with.

    Tree Services in Detail

    Small Tree Felling

We fell small to medium-sized trees that can be safely brought down within a domestic garden setting. This includes trees up to approximately 40ft in height where there is adequate space for controlled felling. We use directional felling techniques — creating a face cut and back cut to control the direction of fall precisely. Where space is limited, we section the tree from the top down, lowering branches and trunk sections on ropes to avoid damage to surrounding property.

    Crown Reduction

Crown reduction reduces the overall size of a tree's canopy while maintaining its natural shape. This is the preferred approach when a tree is too large for its position but you want to keep it. We reduce branches back to suitable growth points, making clean cuts that promote natural healing. Crown reduction is typically done by reducing the canopy by 20-30% — enough to make a significant difference to light and space without stressing the tree.

    Crown Thinning

Crown thinning removes a proportion of the internal branches to reduce density without changing the overall size or shape. This allows more light through the canopy, reduces wind resistance (lowering the risk of wind damage) and improves air circulation which helps prevent disease. Thinning typically removes 15-25% of the crown's branches.

    Deadwood Removal

Dead branches within a tree's canopy are a falling hazard. We remove all deadwood above a specified diameter — typically anything over 25mm — to eliminate the risk. Deadwood removal does not affect the tree's health and is purely a safety measure. It is recommended as a routine task for any tree overhanging areas where people walk, sit or park.

    Stump Grinding

After a tree is felled, the stump remains. We can grind stumps to 150-200mm below ground level using a mechanical stump grinder. The grindings are used to backfill the hole and can be topped with soil and turf. Stump grinding takes 30-60 minutes per stump depending on size and root spread. It is the quickest and most effective way to remove a stump completely.

    Tree Preservation Orders

Some trees in Ayrshire are protected by Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) or are within conservation areas. It is a legal offence to carry out work on a protected tree without consent from your local authority. We check the status of every tree before starting work and can assist with applications for consent where needed.
